This express limited warranty is effective for product manufactured by Northlight™ USA doors and windows, hereafter referred to as (“Northlight™”), and extends to all original end users and is not transferable.
Subject to the conditions, exclusions and limitations of this limited warranty, we warrant our glass and components below will be free from defects in materials and workmanship which would render the product unserviceable or unfit for ordinary recommended use from the date of shipment for the following time periods:
Glass – We warrant insulated glass against failure of the air seal and that each unit will be free from material obstruction of vision as a result of fogging or film formation on the internal surfaces. We warrant laminated glass against delamination resulting in materially obstructed vision through the laminated glass. All glass is warranted for a period of twenty (20) years The glass seal between the glass panels is warrantied for a period of five (5) years. We reserve the right to repair or replace glass panels that have failed at our option. Application of any films or materials onto the surface of the glass will void any such warranty applicable and may damage the integrity of the glass or cause other issues. All glass panels that are to be installed above an altitude of 3,500 ft or more above sea level must be specially provisioned for high altitude glass. See your Northlight dealer with regard to this. However if you install glass panels that are NOT prepared for the altitude of the installation, your warranty with respect to the integrity of the gas panel insert is void.
Component Finishes – Northlight™ standard aluminum PVDF paint finish is warranted for a period of ten (10) years against defects resulting in cracking, peeling and other loss of adhesion. Optional and Custom color paint finishes are warranted for a period of ten (10) years unless in coastal environments (within three (5) miles of a sea coast or salt water, then the warranted period for such environments for our finishes will be for a period of one (1) year). Anodized finishes are warranted for a period of three (3) years unless in coastal environment (within three (5) miles of a sea coast or salt water which will be warranted for a period of one (1) year).
Hardware and Components – Folding system and swing door carriers, pivots, surface mounted locks and hinges will be warranted for a period of five (5) years as are the Multipoint and locking mechanisms except in coastal environments. If product is to be installed within 3 miles of salt water special “coastal hardware” must be specified in the original order. In such a case, if NON coastal hardware is installed in a coastal environment, or within 3 miles of salt water, then there is a one (1) year limited warranty on such hardware. Specific “coastal hardware” if ordered will be warrantied for a period of three (3) years in installed within 3 miles of salt water or sea coast. Stainless Steel sliding system hardware components including multipoint lock mechanisms and rolling hardware will be warranted for a period of ten (10) years except if installed within 3 miles of salt water or a coastal environment. In which case stainless steel components will be warranted for a period of five (5) years. All of the above is subject to and contingent upon our products being maintained and cleaned per our guidelines. If the products are NOT marinated regularly and/or cleaned per our guidelines, then it is in our sole and complete discretion to honor the warranty of your Northlight™ product.
Weather Seals – All seals are warranted for a period of five (5) years in environments more than three (3) miles from salt water. In installations within three (3) miles of salt water weather seals are warranted for a period of three years (3). Door systems and windows should be adjusted as per our recommendation and according to variances in site conditions so as not to put undue stress and/or pressure on seals during operation. Improper adjustment of such components could cause premature wear on weather seals and this would void your warranty. Please consult your Northlight™ representative should you have any questions with regard to proper adjustment. As in all installations, proper professional installation and adjustment are crucial to the proper operation and longevity of your Northlight™ product.
Screens – When installed to the interior of a residence or place of business, both pleated and non-pleated screens are warranted for a period of three (3) years. Warranty only applies for interior screens on door and window products. Exterior application of screen is not recommended nor warranted. All screen warranties are subject to our care and maintenance guidelines and any misuse or use in excess of normal wear and tear would void the screen warranty.
Export Limitation – The maximum warranty period for any product used outside of the United States is two (2) years on glass and components and five (5) years on folding or sliding systems and hardware. However this warranty is subject to the terms and conditions set forth above for product installation as well as maintenance and care of your Northlight™ product.
WARRANTY CONDITIONS, EXCLUSIONS AND LIMITATIONS and circumstances that would void the Northlight™ warranty- Northlight’ s products are covered under our limited warranty however that warranty is limited in some respects and does not cover all issues that may occur in our products. Specifically, the following is a list of some of the limitations and circumstances that are NOT covered by our warranty and/or actions taken by either the consumer, installer, contractor or other party which may result in damage to your Northlight product or shortening is service life and as well void your warranty. Some of these conditions and circumstances include, but are not limited to;
Our warranty does NOT cover consequential damages– in the event that a warranty claim is filed and we accept the claim, we will repair our products for you however within the limitations of the warranty and providing you have complied with all of our guidelines with respect to care, installation and maintenance. However in no case are we ever responsible for: Cost for labor, installation, removal or repainting, refinishing or similar activities connected with the replacement product or component; execution of service and costs incurred for shipping, handling, transferring, insuring and transporting; and incidental or consequential damages of any kind other than as mandated by applicable state law; loss of use. We reserve the right to repair any defect that we are responsible for in a commercially practical and acceptable fashion. This may NOT result in the total replacement of your product but rather simply fixing the issue(s) that may arise and is covered under warranty by us. If it is determined that our product must be removed and re installed in order to be serviced, we are NOT responsible for such charges in any event and you or your contractor MUST remove the product in a careful manner or as instructed by us and we will replace the product under the warranty. Accordingly, you must re install the product at your cost and expense. Further you agree to hold us harmless of any such consequential damages resulting from the cost of installation, removal etc. This warranty is not a promise of future performance. Your exclusive remedy shall be repair, replacement or refund as stated in this warranty. If we determine that a defect exists that is covered by this limited warranty, we will elect to either repair the product or components or ship replacement product or components to the distributor or person making the warranty claim in the same condition as the product originally sold. However, we reserve the right to substitute a similar product when the product originally sold has been discontinued or modified and or is no longer in our product line. You agree that we have this right and will abide by our substituted product. We may elect to provide replacement glass with or without associated sash. Northlight(tm), in its sole discretion, may choose to repair the product as an option to replacement in full satisfaction of its warranty obligation. If we are unable to provide replacement and repair is not practical or cannot be made timely, then we may elect to refund the purchase price paid directly to us if the warranty applies. The warranty on any replacement product will only remain in effect for the original life of the original purchased product and will NOT extend the total life of the warranty by us. Hence any replacement parts or materials will NOT extend the original warranty. It is the purchaser’s sole responsibility for determining whether a product purchased from us is suitable for an end user’s needs or application.
All products are to be inspected when delivered to us and all visible defects must be reported prior to installation and finishing. Accordingly, any claims for latent defects must be clearly unusual circumstances and you agree and acknowledge that such claims are rarely if ever granted. All claims for products need to be in a timely fashion and time is of the essence in all claims for manufacturing defects or defects in workmanship of our product. Further, when our products are delivered there should be special care in handling these products per our guidelines provided. Any breach of these could result in damage to your Northlight products and void your warranty. All warranty claims are subject to our care and maintenance guidelines which if not followed will void any and all warranties including claims of latent product defects.
All Claims under these warranties must be made within the specified warranty period and within sixty (60) days of the appearance of a defect. Failure to report defects to us in a timely fashion and in a manner other than as set forth in our “Procedure for Warranty Claims” section, will void all express warranties on our products in all forms. If the claimed defect is warp in door or frame components, we may defer repairing or replacing the door panel or frame component for a period up to twelve (12) months from the date of claim. It is not uncommon for temporary warp condition to occur as the door panel adjusts to local humidity and temperature conditions. Failure by the purchaser or end user to follow the installation and maintenance contained within this warranty required shall void any and all express warranties.
This warranty shall be interpreted, construed and applied under the laws of the State of California in the county of Ventura. All disputes under this warranty shall first be decided by mutually agreeable mediator, with each side to bear its own fees and costs. If the dispute is not resolved through mediation, the LIMITED WARRANTY dispute shall be submitted to a mutually agreeable arbitrator, pursuant to the arbitration rules of the State of California and the parties agree that jurisdiction for such claims will be in the Ventura county of California. The prevailing party to any claim filed under this limited warranty is entitled to reasonable attorney’s fees, expert’s fees and costs. Northlight is entitled to attorney’s fees, expert fees and testing fees regarding any dispute over the installation of its product or any other cost of suit or collection of its debt. This express limited warranty sets forth our maximum liability for our products which in no case does our liability extend beyond the original purchase price of our products and is only available to the original purchaser in the original installation. Should our product be removed and re installed in a different location, or jobsite, then all warranties, either expressed or implied are waived and are no longer in force or apply. No one is authorized to modify or expand this express limited warranty. The absolute limit of our liability is the product purchase price from Northlight(tm). We shall not be liable for special, indirect, consequential, incidental, or punitive damages of any kind and all such claims are waived to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law. Your sole or exclusive remedy with respect to any and all losses and damages resulting from any cause whatsoever as specified herein. All Northlight product is sold ‘as is’ and as such Northlight disclaims any and all implied warranties. We make no other warranty or guarantee, either express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability and of fitness for a particular purpose to the original purchaser or to any subsequent user of the product, except as expressly contained herein. The entire risk as to the quality and performance of the goods is with the buyer. In the event state or provincial law precludes exclusion or limitation of implied warranties, the duration of any such warranties shall be no longer than, and the time and manner of presenting any claim thereon shall be the same as, that provided in the express warranty stated herein.
PROCEDURE FOR WARRANTY CLAIMS: Please inspect your order immediately upon receipt. If you have a problem, immediately upon discovery contact the distributor or dealer from whom you purchased our product, or contact us directly. All warranty claims must be filed in two forms with one being email. If you do NOT receive an email verification that your warranty claim has been received and is being reviewed, please contact our office directly.
Please provide when making your warranty claim the following information: a) Northlight(tm) order number b) date and location of purchase, c) how to contact you, d) the address of where the product can be inspected, and e) a description of the problem and the product (including photographs). All visible defects must be reported before installation and finishing. As well with any claim homeowners will be required to file or certify that our products have been maintained per our guidelines and will be required to submit invoices showing that the Monthly or Quarterly Maintenance has been followed per our guidelines.
As previously set forth, claims under these warranties must be made within the specified warranty period and within sixty (60) days of the appearance of a defect. We reserve the right to charge a fee of no less than $360 dollars for on-site product inspections. However, this fee will be refunded if the product is found to contain a defect covered by this warranty.
All hardware products should be cleaned and maintained as recommended below and as frequently as necessary. Hardware in coastal and salt water environments should be cleaned and maintained every three (3) months as a minimum and more frequently to prevent buildup of salt water or corrosive residue. In event of a warranty claim user must be able to present maintenance schedule as recommended below.
INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS Our products must be stored, installed, maintained, repaired, and used in accordance with acceptable good trade practice and our supplied instructions in order to prevent damage and maintain your warranty.
INSTALLATION AND FINISHING Northlight(tm) Doors are a specialty product that you cannot assume to be a standard installation of a typical door or window. We are not liable for any defects or problems related to installation or that may manifest due to improper installation and adjustment. Northlight(tm) folding door and sliding door systems require proper professional installation which is plumb, square and level. As such proper care needs to be taken to ensure that the sizing of all openings is correct and that no header sagging or movement occurs. Such conditions will impact the operability of your door system and could void our warranty. It is important that the system is properly adjusted for smooth operation. Our products should be installed with adequate overhang and to prevent the effects of sheeting water from above to impact the door and window systems directly.
Waterproofing, Flashing and Construction Design; We do NOT specifically recommend any particular waterproofing of flashing system and It is not our responsibility to design or recommend a flashing system appropriate for each job condition. In our installation videos and other information we provide methods of installation of which some of these steps involve flashing and waterproofing. Although we MAY provide this information, we do NOT guarantee that installation per our instructions will afford the best waterproofing nor do we warranty our installation methods as being “waterproof” in any form. We provide this information as general guidance with respect to installing our product. Accordingly, it is the ultimate responsibility of the purchaser to seek out professional advice on waterproofing and install our products in such a fashion as they are properly flashed and sealed to prevent water intrusion.
Our products are designed to be weather resistant in exterior applications when installed and adjusted properly, however, because of certain conditions and applications over which we may not have control, including but not limited to; frame assembly and field adjustment, design conditions insufficient to prevent sheeting water to impact the products, improper flashing and/or integration into the building waterproofing membrane. Accordingly therefore we do not warrant or represent that our products are impervious to water or water intrusion and air infiltration. We recommend that a professional waterproofing consultant be used to properly integrate our product into the weather barrier of the wall structure.
OPERATION OF Northlight™ FOLDING AND SLIDING SYSTEMS Northlight™ Doors’ folding and sliding systems are specialty products which are required to be used in a particular manner. Children under the age of sixteen (16) should not use systems without an adult being present. Northlight Door systems should be operated as recommended by us. Failure to do so can cause injury. Improper function of our door systems can lead to injury by way of fingers being caught and pinched between folding and sliding panels.
LIMITED WARRANTY CERTIFICATIONS AND TESTING Certifications, ratings and performance typically apply to individual products and will vary and change over time depending on the conditions of use. WE provide our specifications and energy calculations in connection with each product and use either the NFRC rating applicable to that product line/profile and/or the standard default value for all energy calculations per that series/model/profile of door/window system.
RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES Normal and regular maintenance is required to maintain the appearance and extend the finish life and maintain proper operation. The following maintenance procedures are recommended.
Tracks and Bearings – Remove surface contaminants by wiping visible track surfaces with a damp soft cloth and a mild detergent, then wipe dry with a clean cloth. Using a suitable applicator spread a small amount of clear petroleum jelly or similar lubricant. Ensure that the carrier wheels pass through the lubricant so that it is distributed evenly along the track. Place additional lubricant around the bearings. In severe environments, apply a thin film of WD40. Always keep bottom guide channel free from debris.
Hangers, Pivots, Brackets, Handle Back Plates and Hinges – Exposed surfaces should be wiped down with warm soapy water and a soft rag, and then rinsed clean before applying new surface protectants. A light spray application of WD40, followed by a light wipe with a dry cloth to remove excess is recommended for all hangers, pivots, brackets and hinges. For oil rubbed bronze finish, care should be taken when cleaning or re-applying surface protectants.
Surface Mounted Locking Mechanisms – Spraying WD40 to the sliding pin inside the drop bolt and to the lock cylinder (if applicable) is recommended. There are access holes or slots on all drop bolts so that this can be completed without removing the locks from the doors.
Aluminum Coatings – Exposed surfaces should be cleaned with mild detergent soap and water. Any chips or scratches must be repaired immediately and not left exposed to the elements.
Screens – Dust and debris can collect in the guide channels over time. Removal of such build up is easy and important to the screen’s smooth movement. While the screen is retracted, remove any debris with a soft cloth or a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush nozzle. Dusty or coastal environments will require regular cleaning. The screen mesh should be lightly dusted to maintain an unobstructed view and air flow. While the screen is extended, remove any build up with a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush nozzle, care should be taken not to tear or rip the mesh.

Proper care, maintenance and storage of your door and window product is essential to maintaining their useful life and ensuring they will perform for years of service. Improper care may void your warranty and/or cause the door and window products not to perform properly. Please take special care with respect to your Northlight™ door and window products per our recommended guidelines.

Required cleaning and maintenance to maintain your Northlight ™ warranty:
All Northlight products should be regularly cleaned and have debris, dust or other materials that may be resting on the products removed; at a minimum of once a month no matter what environments exist that the products are installed in. All products should undergo a thorough cleaning at least as follows; If in a Salt water environment or any area within 2 miles of the presence of salt water, we require a minimum of quarterly (every three months) full cleanings per our guidelines.
All other areas we require a minimum of Bi-Annual maintenance per our guidelines.
Note: the above is with regard to sills, frames, glass and other materials and does NOT include necessary the track or sill which must be kept clean at all times and no less than as set forth above.
Northlight™ general cleaning guidelines
All exposed frame and panel surfaces should be rinsed by lightly spraying with fresh water and wiped clean with a soft nonabrasive cloth that will not scratch the surface of the material(s). Take care and DO NOT use high pressure devices to clean your Northlight™ door or window products as these could cause damage to the surface materials. You may use a car type washing brush on your surfaces as long as the bristles of the brushes do not scratch the surfaces. Use mild soapy water and no harsh detergents. Ensure all weep holes are free of blockage. Drying is not required but recommended. It is especially important to not allow stucco or other materials to set on the anodized finish. These building materials are caustic and will “eat” the finish.
To clean screen mesh, remove the screen frame from the window or door and lightly spray with water to remove dirt, debris and especially salt residue. If additional cleaning is required, use mild soapy water and a car wash brush to gently remove dirt and debris. Take care not to damage the screen or bend/damage the frame of the screen when removing.
Glass care: Use a non-ammonia based cleaner designed for glass surface cleaning. Apply moderate pressure, in a circular motion, on the areas needing cleaning. Your glass may not be safety glass (tempered or laminated) therefore do not apply too much pressure to the glass. Serious injury can result from broken glass. If the above efforts are unsuccessful, use isopropyl alcohol with a soft cloth, applying moderate pressure, in a circular motion, on the areas needing cleaning. Your glass may not be safety glass (tempered or laminated) therefore do not apply too much pressure to the glass. Serious injury can result from broken glass. If stubborn debris remains, carefully apply a light coat of lacquer thinner to a rag and apply moderate pressure on the glass until debris is gone. Do not allow any chemicals to touch the vinyl, rubber or plastic surfaces. WARNING: IF LACQUER THINNER IS USED, READ THE MANUFACTURER’S WARNING AND INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USE. As a final effort to remove stubborn debris we suggest using a polishing cleanser designed for hand cleaning that contains pumice (e.g “Fast Orange Hand Cleaner”)
Aluminum finishes: Painted Finishes first try a soft cloth with soapy water or non-abrasive, non-caustic typical household cleaner which will not cause damage to the aluminum finish. If you have followed our regular maintenance guidelines and kept up removing the debris or materials from your products the above measures should suffice in removing all surface debris from your Northlight product. However if you have NOT followed our general care guidelines, that other more advanced measures may be necessary to remove debris from the finish. Take special care when implementing any of these procedures as improper use could damage the finish of your Northlight product.
Use as SMALL amount of isopropyl alcohol, applying moderate pressure, in a circular motion, on the areas needing cleaning. Immediately remove this alcohol by wiping with a damp cloth over the area after you have tried this. As a final effort to remove stubborn debris we suggest using a polishing cleanser designed for hand cleaning that contains pumice (e.g “Fast Orange Hand Cleaner”). Only use a moist cotton cloth to apply the cleanser because abrasive instruments e.g. Scotch Brite pads may scratch the anodic surface. First, test for colorfastness in an inconspicuous place. WARNING: DO NOT USE ANY CHEMICALS OR OTHER SUCH SUBSTANCE THAT CAN REMOVE THE COLOR OR GLOSS OF THE PAINT.
Sillpans, tracks or Subsills: Make sure all drainpipes are free of debris that can prevent the proper drainage of water. If any blockage exists flush with water. Unfinished Edges: Most aluminum windows and doors have some unfinished, exposed edges. Pay special attention to these areas to keep them clean.
Care After Cleaning (Required)
Anodized Finishes: Applying car wax to clean, dry anodic finishes is a good way to prolong life and enhance appearance. Follow the wax manufacturer’s instructions.
Painted Finishes: Applying car wax to clean, dry painted finishes is a good way to prolong life and enhance appearance. Follow the wax manufacturer’s instructions.
Components: After cleaning it is important to make sure all major components are working properly and are properly lubricated (if applicable). Stainless steel parts exposed to the elements are to be kept clean and dry. Because stainless steel relies on the passive protection of chromium-oxide, it is imperative that all exposed stainless steel be kept as clean and dry as possible. Door thresholds and window sills are especially susceptible to surface corrosion if not kept clean.
Stainless Steel Track Insert And Hardware Components (not available on all products): Keep clean of dirt and grease. We suggest using a polishing cleanser designed for hand cleaning that contains pumice (e.g “Fast Orange Hand Cleaner”). Only use a moist cotton cloth to apply the cleanser because abrasive instruments e.g. Scotch Brite Pads may scratch the anodic surface. Always apply light and uniform pressure, moving the pad in the same direction as the grain of the stainless steel. Use extreme care not to scratch painted or anodized finishes.
Sash Balances: Must be completely dry before this next process. Remove balances from frame (hire a professional or follow installation instructions) and spray white lithium grease into all metallic areas and re-install the balances. Replace if damaged or corroded.
Roto Operator Lever & Base: Wax all exposed metal, painted or plated finishes; making sure to follow the wax manufacturer’s instructions.
Roto Operator Arm(s) & Gear(s): Cover exposed, unfinished metal surfaces with a thin coat of household oil. For cracks and seams, use the straw applicator and insert liberal amounts of white lithium grease on all metal surfaces, especially the gears. If the arms are made of stainless steel, follow the instructions above for “Stainless Steel”.
Butt Hinges & 4-Bar Hinges: Inspect hinges for damage and verify proper function. Wipe down hinges with a cotton cloth to remove dirt build up and then lubricate using a dry type silicon spray. Check to ensure fasteners have not loosened.
General Product Operation: All operable windows and doors should be inspected for proper operation at least once a year because buildings settle. Hire a professional to adjust the product as needed.
Note: Door thresholds and window sills are especially susceptible to surface corrosion if not kept clean.
Every 10 years we recommend that you perform the following:
Frame & Panels: Hire a professional glazing contractor to perform the following tasks: Inspect all exposed sealant in each frame corner and reseal if needed with a compatible sealant. On all sliding door products, the stainless steel track insert must be removed to properly seal. Check newly sealed joints, after drying, for water leaks. Replace all weather-stripping / glazing vinyl. Remove all glaze-to-frame glass and replace glazing tape, vinyl and sealant and re-glaze. Clean out all sub sillpan drain pipes.)
Note that our warranty terms and conditions may alter from time to time. Your products will be covered under the original warranty that was issued at the time of purchase.
